Background
This study defines the environmental problems concerning the Seman basin. The present situation in the Seman basin is characterized by an evident biological and chemical pollution resulting both from human settlements and productive activity (chemical industry, oil extraction and agriculture). The environmental problem is mainly the consequence of oil extracting activities. This study aims to evaluate the effect of new biological solutions, new system-restoring procedures based on bio-remediation using specific and appropriate plants and biodegrading bacteria. This study includes an in-situ investigation of the Seman river area, from the estuary to the production areas of oil extraction, identifying main problems regarding the environmental pollution.
